Spring colors of Phiêng Lơi

ĐBP - Amidst the mountains of Điện Biên as they transform within a new rhythm of development, the Phiêng Lơi tourism cultural village in Điện Biên Phủ ward stands as a richly identity-filled highlight that is both rustic and peaceful yet full of vitality.

Today, Phiêng Lơi is putting on new clothes through its own cultural internal strength and the consensus of its residents.

Phiêng Lơi village is located to the north, about 5km from the center of Điện Biên Phủ ward. The village covers a natural area of approximately 114ha with relatively flat terrain situated along the Nậm Rốm river, which is favorable for both agricultural production and community-based tourism.

Currently, Phiêng Lơi consists of 68 households, all of whom belong to the Black Thai ethnic group. Identifying community tourism as a long-term direction, Phiêng Lơi has innovated with determination and a systematic approach. From the initial stages, the Party committee and authorities of Điện Biên Phủ ward proactively entered the village to survey every road, stilt house, and space that could be utilized for tourism, ensuring development without losing the inherent identity.

Furthermore, the ward organized for representative households to study the community tourism model at Sin Suối Hồ village in Lai Châu province. This allowed them to access experience in spatial planning, homestay organization, service development, and cultural preservation. Simultaneously, residents were given conditions to learn weaving at Na Sang village in Núa Ngam commune. These experiences helped the people accumulate knowledge and form a tourism mindset, gradually turning traditional crafts into tourism products with sustainable economic and cultural value.

Following these study trips, the people of Phiêng Lơi began renovating and standardizing their infrastructure. Internal village roads were upgraded, while electricity, water, tourism signage, and environmental sanitation systems were synchronously invested in to support homestay models. The ward government organized numerous training sessions for residents on tourism skills, stilt house renovation, homestay investment according to traditional architecture, service professionality, and food safety. Officials directly visited each household to guide spatial arrangements and material selection, ensuring that each homestay is comfortable while retaining its identity. Many families were also supported in installing standardized sanitation facilities.

The establishment of the Phiêng Lơi Tourism Cooperative in November 2025 marked a significant development milestone. Lường Văn Muôn, the head of Phiêng Lơi village and director of the tourism cooperative, noted that the founding of the cooperative was a crucial turning point. He explained that from spontaneous and fragmented tourism, they now have a common organization to discuss and unify their methods, preserve identity, and share benefits. Residents expect that the cooperative will help the village develop more professionally and sustainably, creating stable livelihoods while maintaining their traditional way of life.

Phiêng Lơi is gradually putting on a new coat.

The residents of Phiêng Lơi, such as Lò Văn Bương, expressed their excitement about participating in community tourism and refining their stilt houses to develop homestays. Through this creativity and the dare-to-think, dare-to-do spirit of both the authorities and the people, Phiêng Lơi is rising to become an attractive stopover. On the evening of December 2, 2025, Điện Biên Phủ ward officially held an opening ceremony for the Phiêng Lơi community tourism village and launched the Điện Biên Phủ Tour smart tourism application to promote the image and connect visitors.

Gilles Cestac, a visitor from France who arrived in Phiêng Lơi during the festival, shared that he was deeply impressed by the Thai culture being so perfectly preserved. He felt the sincerity and hospitality of the local people as they introduced their heritage.

Since its opening, the village has welcomed thousands of guests, opening a path for economic development from tourism and improving the lives of residents. This success serves as a foundation for Điện Biên Phủ ward to continue replicating the model. Phiêng Lơi today wears a new spring color, characterized by an active and sustainable tourism mindset that enriches the community tourism landscape of Điện Biên province.
